OVERVIEW OF EMPLOYEE VOLUNTEER PROGRAM

New Belgium Brewing (NBB) encourages employees to give back to the community and make positive changes in the world by volunteering their time to an organization of their choice. To support this, employees are rewarded 1 hour of paid time off (PTO) for every 2 hours of time they volunteer. The maximum amount of volunteer hours matched by NBB is 80 hours or 40 hours of PTO. NBB offers up to $500 per employee who participates in a volunteer vacation. Funds can be used for travel, lodging or other fees. Volunteer vacations, sometimes called VolunTourism, involve taking a vacation (or part of a trip) and participating in activities centered on furthering a charitable cause.  In most cases, the employer pays for part of the trip and a portion of the trip fee may go to a charitable cause.

WHY OUR COMPANY VOLUNTEERS

New Belgium feels fortunate to support organizations through our grants program, but we believe true change can only be reached when people commit their time to action as well as dollars.

BIGGEST VOLUNTEER ACCOMPLISHMENT IN 2014

New Belgium’s Beer Scout team partnered with the City of Fort Collins Natural Areas Department to plan a River Clean Up that would span over 17 areas along the river and local parks.  This company wide event was part of our annual retreat and included all 580 employees. Unfortunately the day had to be cancelled due to snow. Our team regrouped and planned a smaller event on St. Arnold’s Day - we packed/decorated 275 food bundles for Homeless Gear and sent a river clean-up crew to Kingfisher Point where they filled a trailer full of erosion control webbing and trash.

WHERE WE HELPED IN 2014

Lunches at the Mission— We continued our commitment to helping our neighbors by literally helping our neighbors across the street at The Mission.  On the second Tuesday of every month, we spread the love by preparing and serving lunch to community members in need. The Mission provides a warm bed, hot meal, and a community atmosphere to people regardless of age, faith, race or social status.

Bread N Boards— For the past several years, NBB has participated in Sears Trostel’s annual Bread N Boards fundraiser for the Food Bank of Larimer County.  Every year, the specialty lumber store produces hundreds of bread boards that it sells in December to benefit the Food Bank of Larimer County.  We participate by screen printing tea towels that are sold with bread boards. In 2014 we helped raise over $39,000 that will provide over 156,000 meals to families and individuals in Larimer County!
